The Monterey Park Youth Advisory Board (YAB) was created by the Monterey Park City Council to assist them in increasing the awareness of the needs of the communities youth. The YAB is a group of teen leaders that address issues of importance to the youth of Monterey Park. The Board focuses on service to the community and seeks to involve other teens with the community.

The Board produced the Teen Resource Guide, a publication geared towards information and telephone numbers of various organizations which focus on the needs of youth, and the By Teens For Teens which is a publication containing stories, poetry, artwork and thoughts or teens, the goal of this publication was to provide the youth of Monterey Park a platform to express themselves.
The Board is reponsible for the creation of the Crystal Youth Awards. The Crystals was created to recognize outstanding youth and raise community awareness of their positive contributions. The Crystals highlights teens that have used their energy and ingenuity for their community in a positive way. In April the City of Monterey Park officials and the Youth Advisory Board will honor twelve (12) very worthy teens at a gala celebration and ceremony.
Nominations are sought in four categories: Volunteerism, Leadership, Inspirational, and Athletics. Each category will honor the top recipient with an Award of Excellence and recognize two other recipients with a Merit of Achievement.
